Two (2) have pierced scalloped bobeches, knopped shafts with raised images of Greek crosses and stars above tripod bases with pierced scrolling foliate and Gothic cross decorations, terminating in three scrolled feet. Sizes range from 23" H x 6 1/2" W to 27" H x 9" W. All items 19th century.

Two (2) decorative desk accessories, lap desk and inkstand letterbox. 1st item: Napoleon III ebonized lap desk with tortoiseshell, foliate and bird brass boulle inlay, and gilt brass trim made by Vervelle Aine. Upper lid with keyhole opens to reveal three sine-wave letter partitions (frontmost pierced) and a narrow storage well with velvet lid having loops to hold writing utensils flanked by two glass inkwells covered in leather; lower lid opens to reveal partitioned, velvet-lined writing surface of which the upper portion can be lifted via ribbon handle to reveal a storage well. Inscribed "Vervelle Aine" to internal locking mechanism. 8 1/4" H x 14 5/8" W x 13" D. French, 19th century. 2nd item: Victorian rosewood desk stand with ebonized trim having applied pierced and engraved gilt brass accents, comprised of a letterbox with keyhole and hinged lid opening to reveal three satin-lined letter partitions raised on a rectangular base with depressions for two glass inkwells and one fountain pen over single dovetailed drawer on bun feet. Old W. F. Crumpe paper label affixed to underside of drawer. 9 1/2" H x 11 7/8" H x 9 1/4" D. English, late 19th century.

Near pair of French giltwood looking glasses, after the Paris workshop of Jacob-Desmalter et Cie, each featuring a beveled circular mirror plate surrounded by a cherubic bas-relief hand-carved frame. The frame is crested with heralding cherubs and festooned on the base with swags of floral garlands and ribbons. 31" H x 21 1/2" W. Late 19th/early 20th century. Note: The Paris workshop of Jacob-Desmalter et Cie mainly produced furniture in the Empire style, including commissions from Napoleon and his court. Many of Desmalter's styles drew inspiration from the seats and thrones of Antiquity discovered during Napoleon's excavations in Egypt as well as the bas-relief forms found on classical Greek vases. At the turn of the 18th to 19th century, the firm was one of the largest furniture-producing workshops in Napoleonic Paris.

CONDITION: The worn gilded patina is in excellent condition with some surface crazing. The mirrors are a near pair with minor differences and have a minimal amount of restoration to the frame. Napoleon III style ormolu mounted dark green marble inkwell, rectangular form, having three hinged lids with knob or pierced dolphin finials and images of scrolling shells and horns in bas relief. Three wells, two having glass inkwell inserts, are situated parallel to a deep well, surrounded by a molded lambs tongue ormolu trim. Sides with applied decorations of winged horses with mermaid tails and the letter "N" to front, and floral sprays to each side, all raised on four square feet with molded foliate trim. 6 1/2" H x 14" W x 8 1/2" D. Circa 1890.

Front hinged panel with metal escutcheon and a key latch opens to five interior drawers each with inset circular brass handles, all having red velvet inset liners and one with three compartments. 10 1/2 " H x 13" W x 9 1/8" D. 2nd item: One (1) walnut box with a brass handle on a hinged lid having metal escutcheon, key latch, and two hook latches on a hinged partial front panel. Interior composed of three removable stacked compartments with red velvet lining, two bisected, and one stationary compartment. 6 1/2" H x 14" W x 9 1/2" D. Likely English, late 19th/early 20th century.

Overall: 39" H. 2nd item: Small Asian carved gilt painted wooden Buddha figure, seated in a lotus position and anjali mudra atop a lotus form base with carved mandorla. Each side is decorated with an outdoor scene featuring Persian figures engaging in various activities, the top with stylized foliate decoration and gilt goliate finial that acts as a lever to the six doors of the body, revealing a similarly decorated interior with holders for cigars or cigarettes, all resting on gilt bun feet. Marked on the base “Made in France”. 7 1/2″ H x 7 3/8″ dia.
