Case Antiques, Inc. Auctions and Appraisals is proud to sponsor the Tennessee Decorative Arts Symposium at Belmont Mansion in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 23 and 24. Join scholars, collectors, and historians from diverse backgrounds as they examine and interpret the material culture and decorative arts of the South with an emphasis on Tennessee. The event begins with a Friday night tour of “The American Experience: Art and Decorative Arts from Belmont University Alumni” in the Leu Art Gallery at Belmont University followed by a reception at the mansion. Saturday will feature lectures from distinguished speakers including Marc Brown on Migration and Early Settlement of Tennessee; Steve Brown on Historic Buildings in Tennessee; Dr. Judy Bullington on Early Photographic Processes, Jim Hoobler on Portraiture in Tennessee, Derita Coleman Williams on The Art and Mystery of Tennessee Furniture, Janet Hasson and Jennifer Core on Female Academies in Tennessee and Tennessee Samplers, and Rick Warwick on Representative Examples of Material Culture in Tennessee. “We are very committed to furthering the understanding of the decorative arts in Tennessee, so we’re excited about being a part of this symposium,” said Sarah Campbell Drury, Vice President of Decorative Arts, who represents Case in Nashville. “It’s a top-notch lineup of speakers. The information they’ll be presenting will help collectors better appreciate the kinds of objects they see in historic Tennessee homes and at our auctions.”
