"VIRGINIA MARYLANDIA et CAROLINA" by Johann Baptist Homann, 1714. Colored areas include Virginia, Carolina, Maryland, West New Jersey, and East New Jersey. State lines colored. Important settlements marked with small black images of buildings or miniature churches. States, regions, rivers, bodies of water, mountain ranges, and other areas of interest identified. Large pictorial title cartouche depicts European merchants, Native Americans, trade goods, and flora and fauna of North America, bottom right. The addition of privilege in the title cartouche indicates that this is the second state. Scale of miles to left of cartouche, bottom right. Scale with mile and directional notations surrounds map with double black and yellow line border. Housed in wooden frame with gilt paint. Image – 19" H x 22 3/4" W. Framed – 23" H x 26" W. CONDITION: Loss to margins, stain to upper right margin and other margins, some tape to creases. Some toning around edges. Map top margin edge affixed to card stock.
