About Case Antiques

John Case is the owner of Case Antiques, Inc. with over 15 years experience researching and evaluating American antiques and art, with a specialization in early Southern decorative arts. John is a member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) in the following categories:

The Appraisers Association of America (AAA) is the oldest professional association of personal property appraisers in the United States. John has also completed the 2006 Uniform Standards for Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course and passed the examination. In addition to his appraising credentials, John also holds an auction gallery license from the state of Tennessee (TNGL #5157).
Case Antiques offers a variety of services to meet the client’s needs. Whether it is an individual consignment or an entire estate, we offer a comprehensive, tailored approach.
- Cataloged Gallery Auction - For investment quality art and antiques, we conduct competitive, internationally marketed auctions, attracting dealers and collectors worldwide. By offering all forms of bidding - live floor, phone, internet, and absentee - we make it possible for dealers and collectors from around the globe to enter our Knoxville, Tennessee gallery and participate in our auctions. We have achieved record prices for a number of artists and categories.
- Appraisals/Consultations - Our accredited appraisers offer basic estate walk-through consultations and estate inventories as well formal appraisal reports written in accordance to USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) guidelines for equitable distribution and federal tax functions, including charitable donations.
- Estate/Tag Sales - Our estate sales team offers informed pricing and a professionally managed, advertised sale for decorative antiques and general household objects. We offer the estate sale and estate liquidation service primarily for the Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee markets. For items remaining after the estate sale, we can coordinate donations, haul-away, and cleaning services, leaving the premises empty and broom swept.
We have a reputation for integrity and professionalism, and can provide references on request from past consignors including estate attorneys, executors, museums, and private consignors. We conduct our cataloged auctions at our historic Cherokee Mills auction gallery in Knoxville, Tennessee. John has completed a museum graduate course sponsored by the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Wake Forest University. He has also served as an appraiser for the PBS show, “Treasures in Your Attic”, the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon, Virginia, and the Greeneville, Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, He has served as a contributing editor for the Frist Museum’s Art of Tennessee exhibit, Nashville, Tennessee (Tennessee furniture descriptions) and lectured at the William King Regional Arts Center in Abingdon, Virginia on “Earthenware from Southwest Virginia and Eastern Tennessee.” He has also served as a consultant to his family’s antique and estate sale business in Kingsport, TN for the past 10 years. John’s educational background includes a Biomedical/Biochemical Engineering degree from Duke University.
