Middle Tennessee postmaster’s desk with ring turned legs, Farris Chapel community of Franklin Co, TN. Original finish with walnut primary with poplar secondary. Mortised doors of desk open to reveal compartments labeled with letters in alphabetical order. Interior door decorated with 19th century printed designs related to love and marriage. Stand drawer with square nailed construction. Overall excellent condition with original surface. 65" H x 36 1/4" W x 30 1/4" D. Second quarter of 19th century. Note – a similar postmaster’s desk form from Sumner Co. TN is illustrated on page 113, figure 81 of The Art and Mystery of Tennessee Furniture, Harsh and Williams.
