20th century oil on canvas portrait painting depicting the bust of a man with white beard and red head covering, possibly a rabbi, the right side of his face illuminated while the left side of his face is partially obscured in shadow. Signed "M. King" lower left corner. Inscribed "Mose" or "Moses" en verso with numbers. Housed in carved giltwood frame with linen liner and gilt molded rabbet edge. Sight – 9 3/4" H x 7 5/8" W. Framed – 18" H x 16" W. Provenance: West Tennessee estate. CONDITION: A few scattered inclusions to surface (possibly lint). 3 1/2" crease along stretcher line, center right edge, affecting background only. Minor loss of paint at three corners, the largest being a 1/4" loss of paint at the top right corner edge.
