Large silverplated trophy or presentation cup adorned with military motifs. Circular stepped base with beaded and gadrooned decoration, rising to a shaft decorated with three-dimensional figures of soldiers in uniforms from the 18th and 19th centuries, each holding a rifle. Surmounted by a bowl with engraved anthemion motifs and Repousse chased design of crowned military arms with arrows and swags. Two cast figural handles in the form of caryatid angels blowing trumpets. No maker's mark or inscriptions, possible owner's number or deaccession number inscribed on bottom. Condition: one military figure is loose, another has come detached and is temporarily reattached with clay; his rifle is slightly bent. Scattered areas of wear (white metal underneath). Base does not sit square. 15" H, 17" W overall, 6-3/4" dia. at top of cup. Possibly German or Russian, mid to late 19th century. Provenance: Minnesota Collection.
