Sabelicy Opera Omnia, Vol. I-III, by Marcus Antonius Coccius Sabellicus, 1560. Published for Iohannem Heruagium, Basileae. Folio, 3,297 total red edged pages, bound in brown leather with gilt lettering and decorative blind stamps to spines, seven raised hubs. 14 1/2" H x 10 1/4" W x 2" D. European, mid 16th century. Provenance: Estate of Charles Boyd Coleman, Jr., Chattanooga, TN. Descended in the family of Lewis M. Coleman Jr. II (1894-1914), son of Lewis M. Coleman Jr., son of CSA Lt. Colonel Lewis Minor Coleman (1827-1863) and Mary Ambler Marshall, daughter of James K. Marshall and granddaughter of John Marshall (1755-1835). John Marshall was the Fourth Chief Justice of the United States and also served as Secretary of State under John Adams (1800-1801). CONDITION: Covers cracks, wear, loss/peeling to leather, corners bumped. Pages with foxing spots, toning, areas of dampstaining/acid burn, insect damage, to be expected from age. Ink inscriptions, to title pages. Pencil inscriptions, inside of front and back covers and end papers.
