Clipped British signatures from a 18th century document. Middle signature "North" is Lord North (1732-1792), originally Frederick North, who held many British political offices before becoming Prime Minister in 1770. He served as Prime Minister throughout the buildup to the Revolution until the British defeat at Yorktown in 1781, after which he resigned. The top signature "G. Grenville" is George Grenville (14 October 1712 Ð 13 November 1770), a British Whig statesman who held many political positions in Great Britian before becoming Prime Minsiter in 1763. His most known policy was "The Stamp Act" which was very much opposed by the American colonies. Provenance: Property of author Jon Manchip White, Knoxville, TN. Condition: Overall very good condition.
