Mexican folk art dance mask, Tecuan (Tiger) form, used in the Dance of the Tecuanes. Hand-painted, hand-carved polychromed natural wood with with curved fangs and boar hair applications. Older patina, paint losses, age separations. 9 2/3" H X 7 1/2" W X 6 1/2" D. Possibly Oaxaca region. 1st half of the 20th century. Deaccessioned by Knoxville Museum of Art to benefit the acquisitions fund.
