Chinese silk circular embroidery having red background and forbidden stitchery depicting a scholar holding a flowering branch, standing above waves with fish breaking through the surface with additional floral and insect decoration, the outer black border with bats and auspicious symbols. Embroidery is mounted on a cream colored silk square and housed in a black painted frame. Central embroirdery measures 16" dia. Sight – 20" x 20". Framed – 22 1/4" X 22 1/4". Late 19th century.
