19th century gilt lacquer ladies work box, containing ivory needlework implements. Octagonal form box raised on wooden paw feet, decorated with Chinoiserie designs of figures, landscapes and florals, including a family garden scene depicted on the top panel. Hinged lid opens to reveal 18 ivory sewing implements (or parts of implements) in a black lacquered fitted interior, including two lift top compartments also decorated with Chinoiserie designs and 4 pierced ivory spool holders. Ivory implements include thread holders and bobbins, many with intricate carving. A drawer below is locked, key unavailable. Two brass side handles. 6"H x 13"W x 9-1/4"D.
