Confederate Identified Pistol Cartridge Box. Belonged to John W. Perrine, 17th Virginia Cavalry. Brown leather, single stitched with square outer flap and lunate interior flap over implement pouch with tab closure. Interior flap with later inscription reading "JOHN W. PERRINE" over "1863". Includes closure strap, lead finial, and single wide belt loop. Includes retail listing from The Horse Soldier. 4 1/2" H x 5 3/4" W x 1 5/8" D. Provenance: Purchased from Horse Soldier, circa 1993. Estate of Jim Maconkey, Landrum, SC. Note: John W. Perrine is listed as having joined October 4, 1862 and served in the 17th Virginia Cavalry. He was captured on November 30, 1864 in Braxton County, West Virginia and was released June 12, 1865 at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio. He is mentioned in the book "17th Virginia Cavalry" by Nelson Harris, 1994. CONDITION: Outer flap with some minor flaking. Closure strap with tear to perforation. Does not include cartridge tin.
