Group of six Chinese embroideries on silk including one pair round embroideries featuring "Forbidden Stitch" symbols including fungus, bat and sacred ox, 8-1/2" diameter; one other round embroidered silk with floral design, 9-7/8" diameter; three rectangular embroidered silks featuring birds and/or butterflies in garden scenes, one with bats in border, 23-3/4" L x 9-1/2" H to 29-1/2" L x 14-3/4" H. All unframed. Late 19th to early 20th century. Provenance: From the collection of Edward S. Thompson, formerly of Columbus, Ohio and Maryville, TN, deceased 1979, by descent to present owner. CONDITION: General light fading. Backs loose to one of pair and larger rectangular one. Three stains, largest 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" on largest embroidery.
