Very large Cherokee rivercane storage basket, square to round form with walnut root dyed geometric designs. Condition: overall very good condition with minor breaks at all four bottom corners, a few scattered breaks at neck and rim, oxidation. 19" H x 13" sq. base, 15-1/2" dia. at opening. Pencil inscription inside: "Lottie Stamper," although the basket is also consistent with works by other earlier Cherokee weavers including Nancy and Rowena Bradley. Early 20th century. Provenance: Nashville, TN Collection; recently discovered in Sevier County, Tennessee.
