Large North Carolina pottery churn marked "O Henry Pottery, Valdese, NC" with impressed "4" denoting gallon capacity. Condition: overall very good condition, slight chip to lug handle. 16-1/4" H. Circa 1940. Note: (Courtesy Drexel Grapevine Antiques) O. Henry pottery operated circa 1937-1951 in Valdese and Connelly Springs, North Carolina and was owned by Anderson Mitchell Church. The pottery was named after the author O. Henry, a pen name for William Sydney Porter, born in Greensboro, NC (1862-1910). The chief and most prolific potter was Evan Javan Brown (1897-1980), other known potters include Edward Brown (1917-d. ?) and McGruder Bishop (b. ? -1970).
