Civil War era saber, rare variant U.S. M1840 heavy dragoon saber and scabbard. Saber with standard 1840 hilt and original blade (33" length). The blade is slightly curved with the lower section where fuller ends being diamond shaped in cross section. The blade is unmarked. Retains the original metal scabbard. Purchased by the consignor at a N. Flayderman & Co. auction of New Milford, Connecticut in 1969. Regarding the unmarked blade, the 1969 auction description (No. 84) states " Although unmarked, it is completely original and there is another marked specimen known with the "U.S. – 1862" dates & Insp marks(see Flayderman Catalog 79, Item 511)".
