Eduoard Cortes (French 1882-1969) oil on canvas Paris street scene depicting an early 20th century view of Paris with pedestrians, horse drawn carriages and streetcars. Signed lower right. Housed in the original carved gilt wood frame. Sight – 12 3/8" H x 17 3/8" W. Framed – 20" H x 25" W. Provenance: Deaccessioned by The Knoxville Museum of Art for the acquisition fund. Biography: (Courtesy of: Odon Wagner Gallery) douard Leon CortËs, of French and Spanish ancestry, was born in 1882. As an adolescent, he became fascinated with the arts and at seventeen began his studies at the cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1901 he contributed a dramatic Parisian street scene at dusk to the Salon des Artistes FranÁais, which brought him immediate fame. Later, as an active member of the prestigious SociÈtÈ des Artistes FranÁais, CortËs exhibited his works yearly at the SociÈtÈ Nationale and the Salon des Independants in Paris. Condition: Painting in excellent condition. Frame with minor abrasions to the perimeter.
