Early and rare miniature East Tennessee redware jug, found in Grainger County, TN. Jug with a manganese glaze, two incised lines around shoulder, extruded handle with thumb prints at terminus, rolled rim, footed base. Partial glazing to bottom. There are also a couple of lines in the glaze that may be the result of using starch in the firing process. Note – similar redware jugs of this form and glaze have been found in the East Tennessee area. A small jug of similar form and glaze was exhibited in the 1996 East Tennessee pottery exhibit – East Tennessee Historical Society. Condition – overall very good condition with a couple of nicks to glaze, shallow chips to base. 5 1/4" height. Circa 1830-50.
