Extremely rare and elaborately decorated "monkey" or harvest jug, Lewis Manning Haun, Greene Co., Tennessee. Cobalt script reads "L.M.H. & Co. Midway 1878" (Midway was a 19th century pottery town in Greene County, TN). Additional cobalt decoration includes cobalt crow feet around the top of the jug with the cobalt script "50", cobalt decoration around the rims of both spouts, cobalt flower/vine decoration at the base of each spout, distinctive leaf stamps around the remnants of the handle terminus, and sine wave incising around the top of the jug. Condition – missing handle, chip to spout.Height 10 1/4". Note – of the three known harvest jugs by Lewis Haun, this example is the most elaborately decorated and the only example with the name of a Tennessee town. Estimate $6000-$8000
