Upcoming historic auction on September 15th, 2007 at 9:00 AM CST at Traveller’s Rest Museum in Nashville,Tennessee. This auction will feature the contents of the historic Nashville mansion, “Glen Leven”, consignments from the heirs of Glen Leven, and other important Southern consignments. Significant examples of TN & Southern silver, furniture, art, porcelain, glass, jewelry, books, and Civil War items will be offered (over 400 lots, over 300 cataloged lots). An extensive offering of silver & silverplate (over 90 lots). Tennessee silver includes W.H. & G.R. Calhoun, E. Raworth, J. Campbell, P. Negrin, J. Peabody, T. Gowdy, J. Reed, S. Bell, and several others. Rare presentation cup and pitcher with Overton provenance of Travellers Rest. Rare Mississippi silver cup, Klein & Lampkin. TN furniture includes – miniature chest, Jackson press, sugar chest, Classical, and Victorian examples. Tennessee art will include a miniature child portrait attributed to John Wood Dodge, Louis E. Jones mountain landscapes, Mayna Avent, Cornelius Hankins, Brantley Smith, George Dury, and other regional artists. Fine art includes a signed M.C. Escher engraving, Grant Wood signed lithograph, Kiyoshi Saito print, two original “Pogo” drawings by cartoonist Walt Kelly. Civil War items include an extensive offering of Civil War related books from the Glen Leven library, Confederate officer’s sash, pistols, Wostenholm Bowie knives, and documents from Glen Leven. Other items include 19th century pocket watches, gold coins, and an extremely scarce Zenith Stratosphere radio, model 16-A-63. There will be a large number of uncatalogued lots in this sale. Pick up of all items must be day of sale. Traveller’s Rest Museum will hold an early preview party on Thursday, Sept. 13th, 5:00 – 8:00 PM ($25/person – proceeds to Travellers Rest Museum).
